So profound in the simplicity of the black and white photo and your exquisite words. I'm going to go view your character sketch.
Simple, yet complex. Profound. Old photos of street scenes have always intrigued me. I try to imagine myself in that time and place.
Occaisonly I have difficulties with finding the words in English (I'm from the Netherlands)and then I saw Cheryl's comment. Yes, that's the word I was looking for. Profound. And beautiful.
This is such a poignant image and message Phil, full of symbolism, a classic!
Thank you,
Sue x
First of all, wonderful photo. I love the haiku. Makes me think the vendor has secrets and knows the beauty that are her flowers. I believe she is sending fate to everyone that buys a bunch. Very nice.

i love the stark juxtaposition of this old woman in austere dark clothes tied to the unabashed blooming of fresh flowers. that they are united, her slow steps pushing youth before her, a solemn procession marks the passing of time...as a trolley rolls by with ease. so personal, yet universal, this glimpse of mortality.
i always look forward to your haiku, the way you lead us into the thought provoking terrain of profound.
thank you...
I am always awestruck at your writings, Phil! The secret of life: yes, to revel in the joy of flowers in bloom, and for the lady selling them, the ability to carry on, spring after spring...
You picked some good syllables.
